Aptly named the “Gateway to the north”, the exotically beautiful Moore River region beckons family travelers from far and wide to its borders. Just watching the spectacular display of incredibly diverse wildflowers in spring is the experience of a lifetime. But there’s much, much more. Read on.

Have Fun On The Indian Ocean!

  • Enjoy the Moore River region’s spectacular beaches. You can swim and snorkel and try your hand at windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing and surfing.
  • If you’re not into adventure water sports, you can always take a dip in the warm waters, go beach bumming, boating, bird-watching, sea-shell collecting and much more.
  • Join other beach-worshippers in a spirited game of beach volleyball if you like.
  • There’s some serious reef and beach fishing to be had in the Indian Ocean. Canoe into the ocean from the pier side and hang your rod out to catch yourself some bream. Crayfishing is an industry here, and you’ll see many fishing boats along the beautiful coastline.
  • Don’t miss a nice afternoon walk along the Guilderton boardwalk; it’s the best way enjoy beach views while browsing the shops alongside.
  • Don’t forget to enjoy the majestic sunrises and sunsets over the Indian ocean.

Explore the Moore River

  • The Moore River has something for every kind of traveler. Family travelers can picnic on the Moore River beaches, bum around on towels and go for dips every now and then.
  • There are several free gas-fired barbecues on the river beaches. They’re ideal for overnight camping – all you have to do is pack a hamper and enjoy the balmy evenings in good company, looking out at great views of the river mouth.
  • You can also go paddling, canoeing or kayaking up the Moore River and try your hand at some of the mild rapids.

Have Some Hinterland Fun

Start your journey into the hinterland right at the sand hills near the beach. If you have kids and adrenalin junkies in your family group, go sand tobogganing or sand boarding. It’s great fun and puts everyone in the mood for more adventures.

Cruise On The Moore River

Sign up for a Moore River cruise; several cruise options are available, based on your need. There are sunset cruises, moonlight cruises, eco tours, tea cruises and so on. Eco tours are great if you want to know more about the fragile ecosystem of the Moore River, the creatures that inhabit the waters and the surrounding hinterland. If you’re more adventurous, opt for one of those high-speed jet boat cruises.

 Enjoy The Wildflowers

The Moore River region is also known as the “Gateway To The Wildflowers” and with good reason. As such this region is a destination for all seasons, but especially so during the spring. That’s when the rolling hills are strewn with delicate, beautiful, diverse and colorful wildflowers.

Visit the Moore River National Park to see untouched expanses of parkland carpeted with wildflowers in spring. This park spans over 17,500 hectares; you can lose yourself here in the thickets of tall eucalypts and banksia trees. Be sure to take a camera along to capture stills of the incredible native wildlife and plantlife here.
