Nightlife has become increasingly important when choosing a destination to visit, whether for a short break or an extended holiday. Cocktails can now be obtained at almost any bar, in any town. Travelers are also hunting for places with a hidden history that make the avid traveler want to know and uncover more about that city’s hidden history and tumultuous past. In response, various destinations have changed their approach and offer a new, vibrant experience. The following four cities are embracing a whole new approach of entertaining you:

London

The twenty four hour tube is about to become a reality; this will allow you to drink until any time of the night you like and still catch a tube home. No more dashing for the tube at 11.45pm or paying huge taxi fares. The twenty four hour tube will effectively change the face of London. A party in the O2 arena can be followed by drinks in Greenwich, via a cheap tube fare instead of an expensive taxi fare.

London restaurants and bars are also getting wise to the new plans; all hour dining and late opening for cocktail bars are falling into place. It will shortly be possible to drop into all your favorite spots in London via the tube and have a truly amazing night out!

San Francisco, California

San Francisco

Trick Dog has become the cocktail bar to be seen at in San Francisco; the owners of this bar are busy looking for new opportunities and embracing them as they appear. They have now opened the Café du Nord in the Swedish American hall. It is a historic building which used to be home to all sorts of music at the turn of the last century. The café has reopened; it has live music and a vibe that is in keeping with its origins.

Another bar worth visiting is Benjamin Cooper which is home to an impressive list of cocktails; for those who are brave enough to try them! Alternatively, you can try grilled octopus or kimchi fritter, all served in bite size pieces, no forks required. These are just two of the items designed to stimulate your taste buds at ABV.

There are several other excellent cocktail bars and eateries, but the recurring theme is that of the modern twist on a historical building; with an allowance for the history and importance of the place.

Capetown, South Africa

Cape Town

Cape Town has always been known for its relaxed, vibrant atmosphere, however, the central business district, in downtown Cape Town has traditionally been quiet after office hours. This tradition is changing; new bars and clubs are appearing and opening well into the night. They are offering a range of cocktails in a variety of scenes.

Enjoy a retro cocktail in the Victorian styled Orphanage Cocktail Emporium, or have some tequila with genuine Mexican dishes in Door 221. There is even a place for gin experts to frequent; Mother’s Ruin will allow you to discuss the qualities of the one hundred and fifty gins they have in stock. Sophistication can be found at Tjing Tjing/Torii whilst the best local live acts are at the House of Machines; a motorcycle shop crossed with a men’s wear outlet.  Literally every taste is catered for from global DJ’s to electronica,  so it will be a night out to remember!

Havana

The Cuban government has finally relaxed the controls on business and this is leading to an explosion in small bars and cafes across the country. Many of these private bars are run from people’s houses and feel more like an intimate, classy party. Some of them have been in existence for years but are now free to trade legally. Cocktails and any drinks involving Rum are the order of the night and the increase in competition is creating a bustling, vibrant atmosphere. Many of the bars are small and intimate, but there are also several which have appeared which are catering to specific sectors, such as the gay community, the business community and the hipster crowds. Among some of the best, we should mention La Casa, Café Bohemia, and Otra Manera. Whatever your preference, you will surely find something which appeals to your tastes.
