Your safety should always be your first priority. It is very important that you have a plan for the safety of your trip whether you are on official business travel or a relaxing family vacation. Wherever you go, you may meet some bad people – it is very true even when you are in your own city or country – therefore, it is very important to always prepare yourself and ensure your safety when you plan to travel to a near place or to a far away land. In this post, I would like to share with you some important safety tips that you need to consider when you travel.

At the Airport

Governments have already heightened their airport security like never before. This is because of the increasing incidents of terrorist attacks around the world. When at the airport, always keep an eye on your luggage. Watch over it and secure it with safety locks. When you leave your luggage unattended, someone might start a bomb scare. Weigh your luggage ahead of time. If your luggage weighs more than 32.5 kg., you are no longer allowed to hand carry it and you will have to pay for the extra weight. The best way is to travel light and to carry only the things that you are sure to use. Prioritize the important things like passport, money, ID.

At the car

If you are the one who will drive the vehicle, give attention to areas where you can dine and re-fuel, including the areas where it is safe to stay. See to it that the car is in good condition, and equip it with the needed tools just in case your car breaks down in the middle of your trip. Always carry a cellular phone so that you can ask for help if the situation calls for such. Pick the right car rental agency that does not show their company name on the license plate or on the car’s body to avoid problems.

At the hotel

Choose a hotel that has modern electronic locks set up in their guest room. These locks change the combination of the number automatically with every new guest. In this way, there is little possibility of having someone who has duplicate keys for your room. If you accidentally lose your key, you need to inform the hotel staff immediately. Make sure that you choose a hotel room with sprinkler systems and smoke detectors. Inside the rooms should be a telephone that allows outside dialing. Every time you go out of your room, don’t leave your valuables inside. Ask for a safe deposit box where you can put your valuables. Always carry your credit cards, cash and important documents with you. Do not open the door of your room when somebody knocks on your door without verifying their identity. Be watchful of your surroundings and immediately report any suspicious persons to the hotel staff.

On the Streets

To avoid becoming a victim of robbery or theft, don’t put your wallet in your back pocket. Instead, place it in your front pocket only. If you have a pocket that can be buttoned up, the better. For added security, you can put your wallet inside the pocket of your jacket. Also make sure that your pocket is waterproof as travelling can be sweaty. Be sure not to put all your money and bank cards inside one pocket. Separate them and put them in separate pockets. If you lose your wallet, you will also lose all your sources of money and it would be difficult for you to pay your bills. It is not fun to be in a strange place without money in your hands.
